Xavi tried this tactics against Villarreal. Even tho we won that game too, the tactics never worked like intended. I guess it's due to he fact that the players back then never really understood the idea plus he didn't have the right players for some of the positions back then. Against Villarreal Garcia played similar role that Alves played against atletico. And Gavi played as LW in that game as well.
