Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid side work very hard without the ball to force play wide, press opponents near the touchline and win the ball. This video shows two examples of this from the second leg of the Champions League match against Barcelona.

Barca need Messi to beat Atletico, the scores will tell you that. Simeone has said the same too. They need that individual brilliance whether it be dribbling past a group of players with speed, flair or for Messi to put in a freekick
If they knocked of the both the Spanish and German champions they can win the Champions league no doubt
How do you get away with copyright?
Problem with this is if you go down a goal early from a cross or a lucky long all then your on the backfire chasing all day
not good in setpices
simeone built a side in his image, dirty and aggressive, but still works hard defencively, wins matches and leagues.
Atleti can work hard as they want, but they are only able to move forward with their dirty, nasty tactics, of making the match incredibly physical, constantly terrorizing the opposition (with sneaky fouls) and the referees with hysteric complaints. That is the crucial side of their strategy. They turn the match into a war. The only way to stop this, if the referee is not buying this s''t.
Athleticos defense is very good and tackticks are good. I still think the italian style of man marking is the best.
The more i see Atletico Madrid tactics. The more i start to think where Ranieri started to develop the 4-4-2 for Leicester City.
The audio is quiet as fuck, please fix.
Nice analysis. I think it is quite interesting how they can play defensively and compact with two strikers, it's more common to see a lone striker with two mobile wingers tucking in.
I also love seeing forwards pull their weight defensively 🙂
Weren't the semi final
one thing is sure in this world that Atletico are unstoppable at calderon
defensive SHITture
First it was Bielsa who came up with this (I think, or no one knows). Then Guardiola implemented this with Barcelona, try to get the ball back in 3 seconds. Then the germans did it, with Dortmund, Klopp took from Barca and made it even better, calling it the Gegenpressing. Bayern were beaten for 2-3 years by this tactics and Heynckes copy-paste and made it even more effective (winning tripple). By then Diego Simone had taken over Atletico and now we see the results of a mix of everything by this kind of pressing, I think they have the best defense so far.
The only difference is how they play when in possession, some counter attack and others play it slowly, but in defending position they are very similar.
And of course the formation plays a big role. Atletico plays 4-4-2 with false wingers ( a new term??). They aren't really wingers because they go inside when defending and when they attack they are still very narrow, you don't see or will almost never see their wingers going wide to receive a long ball. They are closely, almost making the wingers ACM, so close to short pass each other. The false wingers 🙂
grande atletico no tienen una tactica fija.
