Simeone is by far the highest paid manager/coach in sports and its not even close. That must count for something, the board likes his style of management/football. Not the prettiest but gets results, trophies while they make money too
It was ok to play this style post-2017 when they did not have much money, now they are stacked in forward positions and still play like a team made up with a budget of 20 m
The day Simeone leaves Atleti is the day they go right back to being a mid-table side. This football works for them, it's that simple. I've watched this game for 20 years and Simeone is like their Fergie or Messi.

That is why they won the la liga title and constantly reach the latter stages of the champions league even though they don’t have much of a budget compared to the other teams and constantly need to sell their best players. These pundits can complain as much as they want but it’s clearly a model that has worked very well for this team. Also they forget the amount of effort and grit it takes to maintain a style like that.
