In a dramatic twist after the full-time whistle in Madrid, the referee was advised to review a handball call he had earlier waved away, and upon consulting the pitchside monitor, he changed his initial decision and awarded a penalty kick to Atletico Madrid. Yannick Carrasco’s effort was saved by Lukas Hradecky with Saul Niguez heading the rebound against the crossbar before the ball deflected out for a corner in the chaotic box.
